Me, street light and shadow

(Gloria Xiao)

Me, Streetlight and Shadow

3:15 in the morning
A soul Sleepwalked in a
Slabstone street with
Red-tile walls
When Dead silence of emptinesswas heard

You stood there
without a wordYellow faces with
exhausted complexion

Whether or not
the same as I have
You’ve been solely waitingfor one thousand and one nights
worrying someone who
might return late
cannot find his way home
You looked down
I looked down
Rains moistened your faceTears soaked your shadow
I drown in the sea

Someone is with someone else
You are with me
Your shadow is with you
The night is with the shadow

None of us is lonely
All of us are willing to be

(Going to Westminster)

(Florence Ng)

Tube map

我住在Deptford Bridge

South-eastern Line

Waterloo下車

Jubliee Line

Shit!

Coffee club

Starbucks

或是Costa Coffee

( Ling  Kwok )

I am a robber

I am a robber
appear
on the promise Saturday night
The elegant weapon lying in an elegant handbag
was taken out
at the most cheerful moment

Overnight
The most sophisticated Apple technology in the 21st century is employed
to duplicate and broadcast them
Intended to dry the spoils of war
to accompany drink
when I am old

RAINBOW

(Janet Li)

In this sunny June,

The days become lighter and lighter,

Red flames rise

From the green calyx,

I travelled to Germany

Germany’s land

          Below us

Waters in the sea, the river and the lake

          Never flow

Houses like scraps

          Accumulate in the river’s delta

Wait for a while,

         Water flows again

         Houses become puzzles

Wait for a while

A city floats in the sea of frog

We are dipping into a sea

A sea of cloud, a sea of dream

Who sleeps on the cloud?

We are heading for a rainbow

What is the feeling of

Stepping onto the rainbow?

Will my legs be dyed

By the shining light, or is it a charming ladder?

          If I can touch it

If I can get to the rainbow

What should I do there?

I’ve no idea

Maybe

Maybe, maybe.  It does

It does not matter

Be bound by beautiful things

Be bound by fireworks

I like drawing fireworks

Drawing with coloured pencils

Sprinkling the blue and black water

And then fireworks spring up

Spring up to the sky

I like painting,

Painting a fish

             Red

Crossed with

             Yellow

Crossed with

             Red

Crossed with….

A fish, round and fat

I want to paint an amiable fish

Approaching silently, Miss Chan said

An amiable fish, no red and yellow at all

It’s colour is in line with the sea’s

An amiable fish should be

Shallow blue, like the blue of the sea

Certainly, I do not understand,

‘red’ and ‘yellow’ are from the rainbow

there is no shallow blue in the rainbow

I don’t understand still

I don’t understand until

I see fish in the market,

Shallow blue

At 6:00 a.m.

Frankfurt is just on the far end

Rainbow is beforehand. Now I know further,

I know it is the sun’s illusion

Yet I still love the Rainbow

       I love its colour

                 I take up a pen

                 I take up a sheet

                 I draw a fish

A fish in red and yellow…..

(Gloria Xiao)

Café Einstein

Funny Games

Do you dare disrupt the universe?

Do you dare to play a funny game with me?

Easy game, life is.

Go to a right school,  a right university,

Have a right career, then a right husband.

The next right destination is going to be the right coffin!

Funny game, life could be.

Here is very likely the script written by the screenwriter.

"Can I borrow four eggs?"

"Yes, please come in."

This is the beginning of the Funny Games.

Isn't it funny?

A game that is pre-written, and pre-made in 1997.

There is only one rule about funny games.

You cannot tell the ending from the beginning.

Come on, let us start the game!

(Polly Ho, 2/7/2008)

A tribute to Michael Haneke in celebration of his take-by-take re-make of Funny Games, US.

Between sober and drunkenness

(Polly Ho)

Flakes of white salt spray down

Thirstily, the tip of greedy tongue inside my stomach is

twisting and yearning

I order a glass of Margarita

The crystal salt migrates to the lip of the glass

I ask: Is what I yearn for inside this cup?

She remains silent.

Take a deep breath, kiss the virginal lip

My tongue swims around,

in search of sober and drunkenness

Time: 2008/7/27 (Sun) 5:00pm-6:00pm

(Polly Ho)

Kubrick

Sometimes you are impatient

 Sometimes you are god

sometimes you are impatient

Sometimes you are god

Grandma is dead

Dreamwalks

in the middle of the night

we were not worried

the corridor was safe

the neighbours did not complain

and you returned.

You returned and

returned

like the incessant tides

of an ancient ocean.

Splash.

Worlds in your eyes

night wind, moonshine.

What did you tell

our forgetful city

in your mumbling walks,

your age

maybe.

Then how old is

ninety-seven:

a decaying dynasty,

two world wars and

two revolutions

now a dying colony.

Must we not talk about

time and its promises

not kept

the war to end wars

and our saviour saved

in the crystal coffin.

When you looked at me

and smile without a word

I heard voices:

another generation

some other time

one more world.

When you looked at me

and smiled without a word

it reminded me of the time

when I slept, pressing

against your breast

the summer window

of everlasting rain

the smell of your old flat

in the old quarter of town

where I was born

grew up and learnt

to understand the world.

You kept on with

your dreamwalks walking

until at last

you disappeared

through another corridor.

I was not there

to say good bye

but I was not sad

not exactly

even if I knew

you'd only return

as shadow on the window.

something has been said :

people die

dreams come back

children learn to forsake

their lullaby

1993
